I expect a few people have heard from Tam about the goat-walking job that I want to do on Aitutaki in the Cook Islands. It turns out that there are tons of goats here in My Hoa, where we are staying. I took this as an opportunity to start practicing for my new career in the manipulation and direction of goats. It appears that the lead goat completely understood my direction and reacted accordingly, but the little stubborn one in the back is by far my favorite.
The little buggers are everywhere, all over the roads. They know not to move when cars, and more importantly motorbikes, are going by. They just lay there and trust, calm as can be. This is a real argument in favor of epigenetic patterning. Somehow, they know that when they hear the sound of a horn they freeze, and I can’t imagine anyone is teaching them that when they are young.
