More Wat Pho.

This post was originally posted on 25 Feb, 2023, and moved here, to my new blog.

More pictures of Wat Pho in Bangkok. A lot of these are ancient Chinese Buddhist sculptures that were Brought to Thailand as ballast in the bellies of their sailing vessels.

This guy was part of the group that was brought from Ayutthaya, saved from destruction after they moved the capital.

These gilded Buddhas line the inside of the entire perimeter wall, and in total, there are over a thousand Buddha sculptures in Wat Pho.

Tam is silly…

These tablets in front of the Buddhas are educational materials used in the first medical school in Thailand, housed here at Wat Pho since its inception, dating back to the original teachings from the time of Rama III, some time around 1800.

More Chinese statues that guard entrances, and hold up heavy things.

These last two sculptures are Thai in origin. They are used to guard the openings of many temples here. Tam and I just call them “disco dogs”, but, sadly, we don’t really know what they are.

Such great light, and such a peaceful evening.
