Sad To Go, Ready To Go.

Tam and I have been in Kudawa, near the town of Kalpitiya, in the Northwest Province of Sri Lanka for two and a half months. We came here to kiteboard and to take my IKO instructor certification course. We have done all that, and now it comes time to leave this little place and start a new adventure elsewhere. I think Tam and I are both ready for some mountains and trees…

…and some good surfable waves..

I can say I am a bit sad today as we pack and prepare to leave this beautiful place for the rest of Sri Lanka, but I have no doubt that we will find a million more beautiful spots in the next seven months.

This barren and wild place has really become home for us, and every day we have found breathtaking beauty in the wilds of this landscape. I have felt present here, and healthy in my head. My demons have been calm, restful, and happy to be out and about experiencing the landscapes as well. My being feels fed, sated.

I can not really do it justice with some feeble attempt at words, so I will just do pictures today.

Spots around the lagoons and Surfpoint, where we have been staying.

These are from the area around St.Anne’s church land in Kappaladi. The tree was breathtaking: massive, and standing out from the surrounding landscape and structures. The first picture is from outside of the grounds, and the second from inside the courtyard, under the windswept branches of this beautiful old monster.

A couple shots from the town of Kalpitiya.

This is one of the island lagoons that we kite at occasionally. These places, wow.

Kappaladi lagoon: Just another stunning lagoon that we have been kiting perfect conditions in. I wish we could have taken this boat out for some lunch, but no luck. We couldn’t find anyone around to ask. It was just sitting there every day.

And, oh, those sunsets with my favorite person…
