Our little world in and around Weligama

We have just been exploring a bit around Weligama, Midigama, Mirissa, Ahangama, Unawatuna, and the hills North of here lately. I thought I would share some pictures:

Just around here: The beaches of Midigama, Ahangama, and Kabalana and a few of my favorite surf breaks. There are so many breaks scattered along this coast, but a few that stand out are Coconuts, Midigama, Marshmellows, and Sticks.

Mirissa Beach. We surf amazing right point waves on that far side, under the jungle wall. It really is a beautiful spot!

And then have a beer and dinner immediately after, overlooking the surf spot.

On the other end of Mirissa Beach, about five hundred meters, is this cute beach and fun little island you can walk out to. So we did! We had to cross some old ruins, some crusty rocks, and then climb the super structurally-sound stairs and ladder to get there, but it was really pretty up there, with a gorgeous view back down to Mirissa Beach.

Tam had no problem going up those rickety old steps.

And then we nerded out on the top of the island.

And then another day, another surf trip about forty minutes West to Unawatuna. No surf that day, but we did get to do some rainy day exploring and hiking.

This is Jungle Beach, in Unawatuna. It is this really hidden little stretch of beach that is usually totally crowded, but we had it to ourselves because it was absolutely bucketing down rain. We visited a Japanese Peace Temple there, and then got absolutely poured on for a half hour walking from the temple to Jungle Beach. Very, very wet for this selfie.

We found this great waterfall about two hours tuk tuk drive north of our place on another day trip. Beautiful four or five tier waterfall, with a giant infinity pool-like pond at the top.

You could walk out on the edge of it but it was a bit slippery.

She is always brave and beautiful to me!

It was such a pretty light in the jungle that day. Before we got completely drenched by another huge thunderstorm. It is still monsoon season here.

Of course we have to get the gratuitous selfie…

…Because we didn’t take this wise advice! That wouldn’t be any fun at all!
