We rescued a dog. This was back in June (or July, I can’t remember).
She was found starving to death with her two siblings on a remote island when a group of kiters from our place found them. It took a couple of days to get back to them, but when we did two of the three pups had died.

This one was left.
The owner of the place we stay here, Surfpoint Sri Lanka, has a daughter. What he did not want was another dog hanging around the hotel and restaurant, but, as happens so often, the daughter played the “cute daughter vs loving father” card and she won and the new pup was brought home. She named her Yoda because she was this starving little thing with a wormy pot-belly and huge ears. It fit the bill.
It was a tough go for a bit: all her skin and hair fell off, she took a long time to start to put on weight, and she became a bit psychotic and neurotic about her incessantly itchy skin for some time.
But, over time, as things go, she started to improve.

She was starting to look like a dog again. Kind of cute.

She was starting to develop into quite the clown. And she was rapidly showing signs of becoming a princess in training.
Tam had some donations from some caring people back home, and we poured a bit of time and energy into this mutt: we had her vaccinated against, well, everything, and had her spayed so there wouldn’t be any more princesses competing for resources and attention around here.
We were excited to see her when we returned from traveling the rest of the island, and we were not disappointed. She had flourished.
She now runs Surfpoint Sri Lanka. She has also graduated to full-blown, no-holds-barred princess status.
No more princess in training here.

These two princesses being all princessy together. And cute as hell.

So cute these two, sitting like royalty waiting to be fed grapes and fanned with banana leaves..

Yoda: “Do you see what those silly peons are up to now? Why have they not brought our dinner? And where is our beach boy with our banana leaf fan? It is getting very hot.”
Tam: “What?”

I am not sure what is going on here, but they are definitely sharing some inside princess joke. They have the exact same look on their faces! It must be some kind of shared royalty thing that I could never in a million years understand.
I love that we were able to change this one life for the better in a place of such canine hardship. There is so much we have done for the dogs all over the island (and so much left to be done), but it never seems enough.
At least I have my two princesses here.
