Number three in the continuing Pohnpei saga is about a couple of nerds who visit waterfalls (shoot, we still aren’t caught up to our most recent surf trip).
One nerd does it with some kind of weird waterfall FOMO (fear of missing out) bordering on a squirrel-on-crack-obsessiveness.
The other nerd? Well, that one tags along a bit more reluctantly.

I will bet you can’t figure out which one of the nerds this one is.

The other nerd gets a little less excited.
It is really pretty, though, and after eight months on a tiny little coral atoll, the mountains and jungles are a welcome change.

One nerd gets very very excited about selfies at waterfalls…

The other one a bit less so.
Are you slowly starting to figure out which nerd is which? I know it isn’t too obvious.

And the nerd says “Oh, look. It’s another waterfall”.

The nerds hiked for hours up a nonexistent trail, in the pouring rain, to a cave with a really boring old waterfall that fell a measly thousand feet or so from the cliffs above. One nerd was grumpy cause he (or she) slipped in the wet cave and got bat poop all over himself (or herself), and in the cuts all over his (or her) feet. The grumpy nerd really hated to admit it, but it was really beautiful… except for the stink, and the rabies, and the infected cuts, and the stink.

This may (or may not) be the grumpy nerd.

In all seriousness, though, the grumpy nerd (pictured above, just in case there was any question remaining as to which was which) quite enjoys hiking barefoot in muddy, verdant, overgrown jungles. It is a great and childish joy that you can only recapture through the feeling of mud squishing up between your toes.
Please don’t tell the other nerd.

And how could he not find the joy in the adventure, living life with this amazing nerd? Going to these beautiful places, exploring the unknown corners of places that most people never get out to. Just being out there seeing these sights is enough to convert any grumpy old nerd.
I mean, look at that beautiful picture, and try to imagine how much more profoundly moving it was to actually be there.
This grumpy old nerd is a lucky guy.
You are both very cute nerds and I enjoyed nerding out with you vicariously. Xoxo Anna
